They had a tough row to hoe. The CP+ 2021 conference was held virtually, eliminating the main benefit of attending the primary Japanese camera event – walking around the booths and getting to touch newly-announced camera gear. The pandemic ended that prospect early, but still the organizers managed to attract about about 50,000 people (via BCN+R in Japanese) to come to its website during the event. That’s down about 40 percent from the previous, in-person event.

Camera companies typically opted to announce their new products outside of the event, but some well-constructed panel conversations drew readers and viewers in, especially those comprised of major camera manufacturer product managers.
