OM Teases Chiaroscuro ‘Wow’ Camera Pic

Proving that they are, indeed, a Japanese camera manufacturer, OM System (last week “OM Digital”) published a set of half-blackened camera pictures of its upcoming “wow” camera (via 43Rumors.com). The pictures show the camera has a grip, a flash shoe, some dials, and appears to be able to attach lenses.

Text on one of the images includes the phrase “Doing the impossible is our legacy…” which appears to be a one-upped version of Canon’s sounds-better-in-Japanese “See impossible” slogan.

[Editor’s note: Last week, OM System made a big deal about changing its name from OM Digital. The company is a spin-off of Olympus, and appears not to have the right to brand itself with the original Olympus name. That it went through the trouble of changing brand names – yet in doing so only changed the non-branded word – appears to indicate a form of brand paralysis.

OM System’s offerings come primarily in the open mount format Micro Four Thirds, so the OM System isn’t really OM’s system. The name does match nicely with Camnostic’s brand categorizations, though, as Olympus’s offerings have always been put in the “Other Manufacturer” category. ]
