Sigma patented three lens designs that appear to address the profusion of third party and OEM competitors who have been launching decent-but-smaller-and-lighter lenses. With apertures ranging from f/2 to f/2.8, these 12 and 14mm lens designs retain Sigma’s typically complex lens designs with 4 groups and up to 19 lens elements each. The lenses show back focus numbers indicating they are designed for mirrorless.
Sigma tends to produce a much higher percentage of its patent designs than most other manufacturers. These designs, like the others it has started producing as mirrorless-first lenses, appear to be designed for Sony’s FE system, which has the greatest limiting parameters. This makes them usable for remounting in Sigma’s L-Mount Alliance configuration, if not fully exploiting that mount’s full dimensions.
