Atomos’s excellent Ninja V external recorder and monitor will support the Nikon Z7 and Z6 series with a firmware upgrade coming in the winter, allowing for 10-bit 4K shooting, or 12-bit HD shooting. The new Z7 and Z6 Mark II revisions will come with the necessary firmware.
With the Nikon cameras supporting CFexpress cards, like the new Canon R series full frame mirrorless offerings, the Atomos Ninja 5’s $600 price seems very reasonable, as – when combined with a same-size SSD drive that might cost another $100 – it can be the same price as a large CFexpress card and provide far superior recording formats, visual tools and thermal performance.
