SonyAlphaRumors reports that a source gave it information suggesting Sony will release the long-expected A7IV in Q2 or Q3 of 2021. The budget full frame shooter is to have a new sensor – said to be around 30 megapixels. It will feature a relatively cheap EVF and screen, which is the norm for Sony’s lower-end A7 series; 4K 60p video; and a price of about $2500.
The rumored specs don’t appear to depart from general market expectations, but the timing of the back side of 2021 will surely disappoint some. This will be quite a lot time between the earlier A7r IV release and its down-market sibling versus the equivalent time periods between the earlier A7r models and their cheaper versions. By Q3 2021, it is very, very likely that Sony shooters will be rattling their cages for an A7r V, making the prospect of the “IV” version getting skipped a real possibility.
