CR: R1 Delayed, Consolation Bodies Coming

Canon Rumors reports that the anticipated Canon R1 won’t come this year, leaving the field to the Sony A1 and the eventual Nikon Z7 to compete with its R5 camera.

A separate rumor indicates that two new cameras will come out this week, geared to “new segments.”

Speculation among forum dwellers has focused on a high-resolution (even higher resolution) variant of the R5, with the more wishful thinking hoping for a renewed 7-series featuring a crop sensor.

Just as likely, if Canon does put out a camera addressing a new market, it will be a trick out of its low-end consumer bag, such as a printing picture camera or something that can latch onto your purse.

In addition, an “exciting” new body will be coming out in the second half of 2021.
