Another patent surfaced (Japanese), via An Image on a Sensor, showing continued work on bringing a 3-D capable full frame lens to a Canon full frame mount. The lens has two objective lenses, as binoculars do, and similar set of prism mirrors shunts the light to two contiguous 35mm sensor frames, or two frames half the width of the sensor.
This would allow software to create a genuine three dimensional sets of views given the parallax effect showing differences in perspective from the two different pupil entrances.
