Canon registered a new product number with Russian authorities, but the “DS126856” refers directly to the Canon 1DX Mark III and its previous product number, a practice usually done when the manufacturer revises the Wifi or other radio frequency bits of the camera.

Russia requires an unusually strict regime of RF registrations, especially after legislation passed the Duma a few years ago that required internet infrastructure companies to allow state access to information, register real identities of users and otherwise de-anonymize the use of electronic communications. One silver lining in the successful repression of a big swath of Russian internet is that camera companies have been forced to divulge information on products before their release.
