Canon Rumors reports that among the various lenses expected to be released soon, there is a new fixed focal length popping up: 16mm f/2.8.

While this could be a light, cheap wide angle to compete with the new Sigma mirrorless f/2.8s recently released, it is perhaps more likely that this is Canon’s first RF fisheye lens.
16mm is a traditional fisheye focal length, as is the f/2.8 aperture. So, instead of an inexpensive competitor, this could prove to be wallet-damaging.
Interestingly, as lens design technology has advanced, there is generally less and less distortion apparent in images – especially true with Canon’s RF lineup of new, designed-as-mirrorless offerings. One of the checklist items the RF system lacks remains a nakedly distorted, obnoxiously-wide lens.
