Canon Providing “4K” Tech to NBC at Japan Olympics

Canon announced that Olympics broadcaster NBC selected Canon to provide field and studio lenses for Tokyo Olympics coverage. Most interesting about the announcement is the repeating of the term 4K lenses rather than simply not mentioning a specific resolution. Also interesting is the touting of lenses without the equivalent bragging about any camera bodies provided.

The pre-announced Canon R3 has 4K recording, but presumably not 8K recording. Assuming that the lack of a body announcement implies a relationship to the R3 would be premature, as NBC will be using UHD-DIGISUPER 90 lenses and the like with broadcast camera bodies.
