Canon’s new F/4 14-35mm Lens Almost a Macro

Jun 28, 2021 | Canon, Landscape, Lenses, Rumors

The lens expected to be announced in about 36 hours by Canon, the RF 14-35mm F/4, has a maximum magnification ratio of .38, making it about 80 percent as “Macro” as Canon’s previous f/4 zoom lenses in the EF mount, such as the EF 24-105mm f/4 L Macro. The new information comes from Nokishita, which often receives such additional details a couple days prior to launch.

The Myopic Granddad Wide Zoom

The f/2.8 version of this lens, out for a year and a half and costing about $2,300, has a magnification ratio about half as powerful.

Other details from Nokishita include the fact that it will have a set of filter threads (77mm), ensuring that the increased focal length at the wide end didn’t necessitate the sacrifice of front-end filters.

It will have 9 aperture blades, be 10 cm long and weigh just over half a kg.
