Nokishita reports that Canon will next be releasing lower-end lenses, specifically an RF 16mm f/2.8 and a variable aperture 100-400mm lens to provide a telephoto option for people not wishing to spend $3,000 for the excellent 100-500mm.
The Nikon 28mm Pancake
Where Nikon has waited years before releasing much of the expected pro-level glass for its new mirrorless system, Canon has done the opposite: waiting years before releasing the budget versions of lenses. The Nikon 28mm f/2.8 pancake lens pictured above has been among the unrequited desires of many Canon RF shooters.
Nokishita is easily the most respected rumors source coming out of Japan, but it seldom publishes stories about manufacturer’s order of lens releases. That the main news hook here is that these lenses will be next may indicate that Canon intended on announcing these officially around now, but an issue has prevented their release.
