Sigma’s upcoming 18-55mm kit replacement lens is getting fleshed out in the rumorsphere. Nokishita reports (Japanese) that the lens will have 13 elements broken up into 10 groups, with a relatively poor magnification ratio of 1:2.8 at the short end and 1:5 at the long end.
The filter will be 55mm, and the whole lens will weigh the better part of a pound. This means that in the great game of lens design compromises, it is likely to have emphasized image quality over aperture, size or macro capabilities.
