Nikon announced (Japanese) the official ship date for its much-anticipated new flagship, the Z9. It will release on December 24, 2021, the day before Christmas and a Friday. This ensures that the most people possible will lose their Z9 packages in the pre-Christmas logistics and shipping scrum – greatly exacerbated this year with strange pandemic labor and other shortages.
The press release repeated Nikon’s earlier statements that orders had been more than expected, and featured a very odd musing: “In addition, we are considering increasing production due to the favorable reception of orders, but due to the impact of semiconductor shortages, it may take time for products to be delivered even to customers who make reservations in the future.”
Most Nikon watchers already assumed the firm was willing to “consider” making more, when earlier production estimates and order estimates indicated a roughly 11-year wait period.
