SonyAddict reports that a Sony FE 85mm f/1.2 GM will pop out this year. The only other lens similar to this spec is the Canon RF 85mm f/1.2, an extremely well-reviewed lens that cost a sweat-inducing $2,800.
Sony’s recent G Master series prime lens releases have proven they can produce bonkers-class glass like the best of them. The Sony E mount is now old enough that the firm is moving into Mark II refreshes of some of those GM models.
The picture at left shows the f/1.4 version of Sony’s 85mm GM series. That lens is considered very respectable among portrait shooters, but it is known for some copy variation. At just f/1.4 it costs $1,800, so moving to f/1.2 would be expected to break well into the two thousands.
