Photojournalists for Canadian Press are already receiving packages of Sony A1 and A9 II cameras among other Alpha series goodies now that the press cooperative sealed a deal with the camera maker to be an exclusive provider.
Sony pulled off a similar coup to the south last year, winning over the UK’s PA Media Group and Associated Press with similar offers of hardware and training.
Canon and Nikon have traditionally split the journalism market, and both provide training and special benefits to members of their respective professional services. Sony has, to date, not been able to stand up equivalent professional services organizations around the world to serve individual countries or regions, but they appear to be creaming the top layer quite successfully with these sorts of deals.
