Canon News put together a nice look into why both Canon and Sony claim to be number one in “cameras.” Much has to do with what region you’re examining, as well as whether you prefer to measure this by revenue or by individual cameras sold. Hint: if you sell more cameras (Canon), you think that’s more important, and if you make more money (Sony), that’s going to be the obvious factor.
As usual, much can be done if you lop off Canada from “Americas,” which makes Canon first place when you count just U.S. figures.
The piece makes a useful observation that camera sales may indeed be a better metric to what when trying to guess future trends, as people tend to stay within systems.
