Samyang Revs 35mm f/1.4 AF

Available now in Sony E mount, Samyang updated its 35mm f/1.4 AF lens. The first version has earned a reputation of very good image quality, although not having as fast an autofocus system as would be expected with a first-party lens. The first version came out in 2016, which – at least in mirrorless camera terms – is quite early.

Samyang 35mm f1.4The MTF charts shows it to have decent-but-not-spectacular image quality at f/1.4. The lens is weather sealed, has a couple programmable switches, and is designed to work with Sony’s firmware to allow in-camera customization.

The lens is a pound and a half, which counts as pretty hefty for a 35mm lens, even one with a maximum aperture of f/1.4. It weighs a few paperclips away from the Sigma 35 f/1.4.
