Following on its very well respected 35mm f/1.2 Art lens made for Sony and L Mount Alliance mounts, Sigma is reported to be preparing the launch of a 50mm f/1.2 equivalent. It will also offer an f/2 version that fits into its Contemporary lineup.
The existing 35mm f/1.2 version is an almost unparalleled prime in terms of light gathering ability and image quality. It was surpassed only a year after its launch by Sony’s own f/1.2 offering.
It was not a small lens, though. While the image quality is achingly-beautiful, holding the lens is similar to strapping a small ham to the other side of the camera body.
A Sony FE mount version mount is reportedly in the works, and presumably Sigma will also produce the lens in its L-mount as well.
