Laowa continues to churn out 2x macro lenses, a new one now in 58mm with its F/2.8 2x Ultra-Macro APO lens. Perhaps more interestingly, it is launching the lens a week after Canon Germany appeared to take legal offense at third party lens makers serving that firm’s R mount systems.
The Laowa lens will come in Sony E, Canon R, Nikon Z and Panasonic and Sigma’s L mounts. The firm claims it is an apochromat (APO) design, cutting down on chromatic aberrations.
The lens has 13 aperture blades to smoothen bokeh. It is internally focusing, which is a big benefit for macro shooters, who otherwise may bump subjects when fumbling with an externally focusing lens.
The lens will cost $500.
