It’s started. Just as rumors indicate that Canon is throwing its weight around to prevent third parties from offering competition, Tamron defiantly announced its kit-oriented 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD.
This marks the first time one of the two main third party lens makers has ventured into the RF or Z mount ecosystems. Tamron has been building up a very respected set of mirrorless zooms that are much lighter and cheaper than first party lenses, and in some cases even sharper at the same maximum aperture.
The lens is slated to come out in the next couple of months.
