Canon Rumors reports that it has information that an R8 will be launched at CP+ by Canon, to bridge the extremely short gap between the R7 and the R10, Canon’s recent crop body releases. While this may sound nonsensical to many, it has been standard Canon procedure previously to create additional SKUs among its cheapest bodies so as to be able to strike exclusive distribution deals in the retail channel.
Then again, the rumor could be wrong about the nature of the camera. It does seem likely to be a crop sensor body, as even Canon wouldn’t put a full frame body numerically between two crop bodies. Would it? Probably more likely would be the introduction of one of the video-centric sensor formats, which are close to the crop format.
