CanonRumors put up a nice collection of links to lenses compatible with the new Canon RF-mount mirroless system.
The third party list already numbers 30 lenses, with more coming. The dam may break when Tamron and Sigma finally start releasing their new wares in RF. Sigma’s CEO recently spoke of doing so in a business review piece he wrote.
Canon launched its new RF mount system in typically odd Canon fashion, this time coming out with low-end bodies and super-high-end lenses. Amusingly, Nikon did the opposite, sending the Z series out into the world with non-pro lenses.
These are both now equalizing a bit, with cheaper Canon lenses being made available in the form of the recent 85mm and 50mm f/1.8 non-L lenses, which cost six times less and eleven times less than the originally-launched RF lenses in those focal lengths. So yeah, there was some headroom to introduce some lower-end products.
With Sigma and Tamron being on a bit of a lens design tear that seems only to accelerate, many R5 and Z7 owners are hoping the third party manufacturers will join the market already entered by Samyang, Laowa, NiSi, Lensbaby, Kipon, Mitikon, 7Artisans and others.
