OM Digital, which promised a “wow camera,” registered a new body with radio frequency regulators yesterday morning. Indications previously showed that the “wow” camera might just be an “oh” camera.
It may be that OM Digital – now shorn of its Olympus parent company – managing to put out any new camera at all is a “wow” event. Executives previously indicated its long-term strategy was going to be focusing on unique technologies, rather than simply rounding out the MFT mount with me-too bodies. Comments from OM Digital executives could be interpreted as pushing framerate and shutter roll prevention – both qualities that would appear much more valuable before the releases of the Sony A1 and the Canon R3.
