Introduced at the current CES conference held especially for people who don’t believe in virology, Canon is bowing a new, two-way communications platform using its cameras and lenses to create a virtual reality environment for people to talk, and, um, look.
Kokomo is a service allowing people with certain camera equipment, likely including Canon’s new dual-lens VR rig to interact with each other in a virtual environment. The Canon press release makes it sound like a more immersive Zoom, but it may well lend itself more to industries that are focused on showing 3D renditions of people moving in realtime. If only we could think of a multi-billion-dollar industry showing off human bodies that would likely use this.
